Sri Mahamariamman Temple reviews
24Impressive temple and very welcoming, I was lucky when I visited there was a ceremony taking place and afterwards relaxing music was playing I spent about an hour here just relaxing. You so need to be covered legs and shoulders but they do provide if needed and must also leave your shoes out side and pay a small fee think it was only 2RM but can’t remember to be certain but well worth it
Admission fee is 20 cents. I went in without hesitation and fell in love with the amazing sculptures. A feast of amazing sculptures. The temple is small, so you can see everything in 10 minutes. It is a wonderful temple and a must-visit if you have never visited a Hindu temple.
Beautiful temple from outside. There's not much to see inside. The man at the entrance is extremely unfriendly and disrespectful.
Beautiful temple and we were also able to enjoy the hour of offering and prayer.
Shoes are kept right next to the entrance for €0.20
Very unique:
1.
Built in 1873, the Maha Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur. The overall architecture reflects the architectural style of southern India, especially the five-story temple tower (Gopuram) that was added in 1972.2.
Mariamman is the manifestation of Parvati, the wife of Shiva, the head of the three main gods of Hinduism. She is especially revered in countries other than India. It is said that she can bless Hindus who settle in foreign countries.
3.
The most prominent pyramid-shaped five-story temple tower (Gopuram) was completed in 1972. It is the tallest architectural structure of the entire temple (22.9 meters high), with 228 Indian gods carved on it, fully reflecting the architectural style of South India.
4.
The design of the entire temple implies that a person is lying on the ground with his head facing west and his feet facing east. The temple tower gate is the foot of a person, which means a bridge between the material world and the spiritual world. The main prayer hall of the Hindu temple is specially decorated with colorful and eye-catching colors, and the images of deities appear too numerous to be identified.
5.
Coconut water in the market next to it, a cultural attraction that cools the body and mind in the hot afternoon, take off your shoes to enter, storage fee 0.2M/person
The oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur is now surrounded by Chinatown. It was founded in 1873 by an Indian businessman K. Thamboosamy Pillay who also bought and dedicated the land and other temples in Batu Cave KL to tamil worshipers. He must have been a person of good heart because he not only took care of the early immigrant arrivals from India but donated money to catholic church and other good causes too. Indian community should be thankful for his contributions towards shaping Kuala Lumpur in those early colonial days.
Very cool place to experience the Hindu tradition and culture. We were able to catch a really cool ceremony that was only performed once every couple of years and this really friendly couple who spoke English, welcomed us right in and explained what was going on. It was such an educational and welcoming experience. We loved it!
There's also a shoe storage fee that is mandatory.
Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be slightly different.
A really serene place to sit and connect with the unseen power, gather the positive energy. A really awesome place in mid of the city. Sit, meditate and come back with a clear head.
At first, pay 0.20 RM to keep your shoes and socks, because you can not wear them while entering the temple. The temple is beautiful, the statues and the details. Located very near the Petaling street, and chinatown, very easy to reach the temple. A must visit!
It was an awesome experience. I don't know if I will ever be able to go there again, but I will cherish every moment of the time I spent there. There was a drizzle on the day I visited. It was 30 July 2018.
Temple is beautiful, well maintained and worth the visit. Engagement ceremony inside was colourful but parking during a ceremony is a problem.
A typical hindu temple with lots of statues of hindu mythological. There was a religious ritual going on which the foreigners could watch as well.
One of the oldest and most elaborate in the country, this Hindu temple has a magnificent 22m high tower. The walls and ceilings are adorned with intricately carved images of Hindu deities.
Getting there: KL Hop On Hop Off tour bus/ RapidKL LRT - Pasar Seni station
It is much more interesting to visit this place during ceremonies. If you don’t come during the ceremony, some deities may be closed
Really not knowing about the background. It was just ok. Although the monument in the front was pretty cool looking

Cool place to visit near china town. It’s free to enter. It’s is a nice quite space away from all the traffic outside. While I was there they had some great live music.
