Kafe Kheng Pin 群宾茶餐室 reviews
57We tried one of the well known kopitiam in penang. Must try is ckt with duck eggs, hokkien mee and lor mee was good too and the lor bak is also one of the kopitiam most ordered. Overall portions are very small considering the affordable price and the food is quite decent. Nothing too impressive.
From Selangor, this place is very under rated. Had Tiger CKT, Ah Leng CKT, but the char kuey teow here was still better! The prawn crackers from the lor bak stall is also very nice!
All store are to be pay in CASH. CKT taste not bad. Need to take note Lor bak store ladyboss atittude LCLY.
The five-spice braised pork fried food is eaten quickly and quickly. The fish and chicken porridge and salted egg and preserved egg are good.
Passed by this shop multiple times and it's always packed with people. So I decided to give it a try.
Tried their wantan mee and prawn noodles (hokkien mee).
I have to say, the prawn noodles deserves my 5 stars. The soup is sweet and flavorful. The sweetness comes from prawns. You can really see and taste the prawn head butter in the soup. The presentation is pretty standard. But the broth really did impress me. Price is reasonable at 5.50. This stall is highly recommended.
Wantan mee is decent. No wow factor to justify the price of rm7. The wantan mee comes with two wantan (pretty small meat fillings with no prawn), some char siew, chicken slices and one braised mushroom. The sauce is okay, it has the sesame oil aroma, the soy sauce is also savory. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice wantan mee. It's just that the price of rm7 is little overpriced. The man behind the stall is very polite and soft spoken. I do appreciate that.
There is a lor bak stall selling fried fritters. His stall is somewhat inside the cafe hence producing oily smoke. So sitting near to this stall is unpleasant.
Overall, decent coffee shop with good amount of Penang local food.
I will come back and try the char koay teow.
A friend took me to.this place. Kwe tiauw was so nice and Lor bak (sorry I forgot to get the picture). Atmosphere so hot here limited seat and hard to park cars. Overall food are nice.will be back when I go to Penang again.
Overrated place, the food is just normal especially the char koay teow, I only recommend the loh bak as the sauce is better than other places
Ok ok food, must pay 50 cent if you don't order drinks, But the frying of lobak is inside the coffee shop itself with no ventilation system so you get covered in grease and oil smelling like coffeeshop for the rest of the day and occasionally coughing from the smoke
The best lobak in Penang Town! A must go to place to get your fix for the quintessential Penang Lobak!
For me, the best lobak in penang island. Prawn fritters and tauhu, oh my gawd, best in the world.
The Chinese Nasir lemak is old school and taste good. Had the sambal cockles and sotong with coconut rice. Old school taste
Open for breakfast until sold out. Coffeeshop is closed on Tuesday.
Food quality dropped drastically
Loh bak no longer to die for
The new hokkien mee stall, is bad. The broth is so watered down. Tourists dont mind i guess but as a Penangite i cannot accept the less authentic hokkien mee that doesnt taste prawn doesnt taste pork ribs
Maybe it's cooked from the processed mixture paste
Nasi lemak remains, not bad.
Overall, go with no expectation then you are fine
The husband and wife team that sell famous Lor Bak (deep fried gor hiong) is available here, till 2pm only.
I'm supoost to give 5 star for the food in this restaurent. Why I take our 1 star. Over all the food is superb and very authentic but their beverages are too bad. Coffee not as good like other place, so we got to order can drink like coke or 100plus to make sure they don't charge us for dint order drinks. The fried noodle are super good and what me me feel super enjoy is their lohbak. Must order! Chicken rice also very good. No chicken stinky smell and the meat are super soft and tender. But pls don't order their coffee.
Chicken and fish porridge was very delicious. Generous and lot of varieties of ingredients. Porridge itself was tasty and well done
Quick simple breakfast foods - char kueh tiaw, wantan mee, lor bak. Taste wise, both char kueh tiaw and lor bak were delicious! They are reasonably priced at rm6 each. Sharing portion for 2.
When in Penang, a visit to this place is a must, as it houses probably the best Lor Bak ever. There are other stalls in this place selling wantan mee, char koay teow, chicken rice, porridge, hokkien mee and also not forgetting Annie's Nasi Lemak (a must try as well).
Parking is normally along Aboo Sittee Lane, but that can be a bit of an issue if you're close to peak hours. You may want to park a little further away and walk to Kheng Pin instead.
I have been to this place for about 40 years now, and the food there, though some stalls have changed through the years, has never failed me. It's quite astonishing that almost every single stall serves really good food - a rarity. But most come here for the lor bak, as it's another one of Penang's long standing institutions.
Lor Bak is highly recommend. Tasted very fresh and crispy.
Others food has nasi lemak and wanton new.
Authentic Penang food. My personal favourites are the char kue tiaw (portion quite small) and wantan mee (comes in Large, Medium and Small). Delicious and cheap!
Abit crowd for morning breakfast. Have to wait a little while to get seated. No drinking straw provided as compliance to eco green Penang.
