Chulia Street Night Hawker Stalls reviews
42Pretty much overcrowded with tourists and its difficult to find a table to sit and eat despite the various options of decilious food. If you have the patience to stand around and wait for a table, then go. Also you can order takeaway.
The most bustling street in Penang, everyone here were invited to join the feast at Chulia street food (Lebuh Chulia). Walking down the lane will just make your mouthwatering, the street packed with cafes, restaurants, and hawker stalls.
Lets taste other foods, hear other language, you can find anything from fresh juice, fried pancakes, Char Kuey Teow to Apom
When you would not experience to sit on greasy plastic chairs, eat way to much of all kinds of interesting food, find your way through foodstalls and driving cars and talk to strangers next to you, you are not multitasking and would miss a wonderful evening.
Here is the food street in the late afternoon and evening
Of course, so opening hours are 17.00 SD 23.00.
It's a bit crowded and there are lots of queues to buy
Just 1 kind of food.
Overall, it's worth visiting.
Visited here from Singapore and had a nice taste of Penang hawker food. Recommend the wanton mee and the lok lok. Managed to find a table for two relatively easily on a Sunday evening.
Chulia Street's hawker food offers a diverse culinary experience, with an array of delicious options. However, the challenge lies in finding seating arrangements. The popularity of the street's hawker fare often results in limited places to sit, making it somewhat inconvenient for a comfortable dining experience. Despite the seating struggle, the vibrant flavors and variety of dishes make it worth exploring for any food enthusiast. Consider opting for a takeaway approach to fully enjoy the delectable offerings while navigating the limited seating situation. Overall, Chulia Street hawker food stands out for its taste, but be prepared for the potential seating challenge in this bustling culinary hotspot.
Only get to tried the street vendor - fried kway tiao with duck egg- spicy and good as the only stall open at 4pm. It's located inner street along the stretch right outside a chinese restaurant.
The rest of the street vendors are yet to see them in sight at 4pm. Presumably, other street vendors start after 5 to 6pm.
Tried 2nd runner up winner for 2023 char kuey teow and wantan noodles at the corner of lebuh carnovan. Both are good. Char Kuey Teow is rm8 per small little plate and wantan noodles is rm6 per bowl.
Delicious! Had the right “char” and spice.we went at 6pm on a Wednesday so there was no queue.highly recommended.
BEST IN PENANG! (I've tried >15)
OMGGGGGG the perfectly fried and flavored duck egg comes in big chunks, and the heavenly koay tiao & sauce
1000000 out of 10!
STANDING OVASION for this uncle)
First time trying as we wanted to have CKT for supper since our favourite stall in Pulau Tikus wet market was closed (had it a few days later and still a favourite). Rating seemed good, but we knew rating didn’t really much unless if below 3 * ie avoid but main motivation is to eat our first Penang CKT so we just had to try. Maybe we had it late (930pm) or the style isn’t what we are craving for. Still many foreign tourists seem game to try CKT.
Average fare when Kimberley Street night stalls are shut for the night. For some strange reasons, this street still operates after 10pm during MCO.
The Penang style wanton mee by "Mother and Son" is popular with the locals, but far below KL standards.
Across the street, an octagenarian couple will fry up unremarkable Char Koay Teow with cockle sprats and shrimps (RM5.50). For the drunks loitering out of bars on to the streets, average is good enough to fill their empty stomachs.
Many hawkers sells various yummy food. You can't missed the most famous "wan tan noodle", curry mee and "lok lok". The best time to visit is around 7pm.
Happening at night. A lot of chinese food hawker stall. For muslim, u can try satay, chicken kebab, coconut shake and mee goreng mamak.
Variety of stall available
Ice Kacang in small lane RM4 for a bowl
Fried Keow Teow RM6 small portion, large shrimp
2 Popiah RM4 but not nice
Lok-lok price is depend on the food stick you choose.
Parking is a problem, otherwise very happening place with variety of good local food, wantan mee & yong taufu is worth to try.
Penang's most famous local fares all found all in a spot (well, it's actually many food stalls lined up along Chulia street). If you are in Penang for only a night, visit this place to tase the best of Penang local fares; and to absorb the atmosphere of locals (and tourists) enjoying their dinner by the side of a busy road. A few tips if it's your first time:
#1. Do not drive. Walking here will get you faster lest you get trapped in a heavy traffic.
#2. Get a table first before ordering any food
#3. Unspoken rule - order a dish / drink from a stall nearest to your table. Beware of judging eyes and possible berating if you don't.
#4. Now you can go and choose the food you want from other stalls. Bon a petit.
I was a bit skeptical at first because the place is located in a very touristy area, however decided to try it and was not disappointed. Amazing and authentic tasting food, in very affordable prices with extremely helpful and friendly people. I would recommend it for a good and varied dinner.
Was highly recommended must visit - ok experience busy and places to sit and eat cheap fresh made street food. A little dirty and smelly bit of your ok with that it is a good experience
Went for the Wan Tan Mee which was very nice. The servers were quite rude. As usual, do not drive there as there is no parking at all there. A lot of delicious food there though.
